Jn. 3:8 “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.“
Have you ever wondered about Jesus saying the wind blows where it wants to according to it’s will? The birth of the Spirit has a will and blows upon whomever it chooses. Nicodemus saw in his mind the born again of the water as entering his mother’s womb a second time as a grown man confusing. The born of the water is easy to understand, being baptized in water, in Jesus name washing away all sins Acts 2:38 ;not entering your fleshly mother’s womb a second time. Nicodemus even asked Jesus, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?“
Born again of the water was Jesus speaking of his future of dying on the cross, taking all the sins of the world upon himself, and with his pure blood paying the eternal sin debt for all of mankind 1 Cor. 5:21. Born again of the water was not really as tough to imagine by Nicodemus due to John was baptizing people preparing the way for Jesus to come along with the complete plan of salvation.
Being born of the Spirit was a whole different situation with Nicodemus. He had no idea what this could mean. The wind blows where it wants to, you can hear the sound, you cannot see where it is coming from or where it is going and that is how it is with someone being born of the Spirit? The wind sounds like God going where He wants to go, lets His presence be known, and not knowing His coming and going.
God goes where He wants to. He allows us to hear Him. We do not see the direction He comes to us. We do not see where He is going. Those who are born again of His Spirit happens because God chooses them to receive it. God gives the person a sound from their voice that He is inside them. God fills people in places you would not expect and He goes to other people we don’t know about.
Sounds like a room on a second floor of a house and not a church setting Acts 2, a town of Samaria that had only been baptized in Jesus name needed the infilling of the Holy Ghost birth Acts 8:14-16, and it sounds like going to a forbidden house speaking the words God wanted spoken and while the speaker was speaking, the wind/God, came upon the people listening, the people starting speaking a sound of words and a language the wind/God was giving them as a sign to Peter the born again of the Spirit is for everyone Acts 10:34-48.
Back to the wind/God, Jesus was speaking about in the born again of the Spirit conversation. The wind blows where it wants to, you can hear it’s presences, you can’t tell where it came from or where it is going. Gen. 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” God is a Spirit Jn. 4:24 and wind is something we can understand on our level relating to God as a Holy Spirit. The wind is invisible, yet we know it is there.
Wind is like the air and air is invisible like God. You cannot see it, but you believe it because you are breathing it. God can make the wind stand still like air and you not know He is there. God is there. God can make the air move in a solid invisible form moving objects physically seen and heard by us. God is here, there, and everywhere.
God showed a man that thought he was alone and wanted to die, that in truth he is not alone. God is with him in the very air that he breathes. God made a powerful earthy wind pass by in front of him ripping the rocks of the mountain. God made a powerful earthquake shake before him. God made an earthly fire burn before him, but God was not in them. God spoke right beside this man from the air he was breathing in a still small voice 1 Kings 19:11-13. That man was Elijah. God is a Spirit that is All Knowing, All Present, and All powerful.
The wind Jesus is talking about is God being right there with you and could breathe His Holy Spirit upon you no matter where you are, if you will accept Him. The born again of the Spirit is the reuniting the relationship God tried to have in the beginning with Adam and Eve. Adam’s birth is a reflection of the born again of the water and of the Spirit through Jesus today.
God did not speak Adam’s living soul into life. God breathed His Spirit/Wind upon Adam then Adam became a living soul, inside a fleshly body, formed in the image, and likeness of God. If God were of a solid form.
The parallel of being born of the spirit is where Adam is lying there lifeless and dead at the beginning of creation. God’s wind/Spirit goes where it wants to, you can hear God’s wind/Spirit, but cannot tell from where it is coming or going. God breathes into Adam the breath of life creating a living soul. Gen. 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Adam experienced the first birth of the Spirit of Life for mankind, waking with ability to speak words and a language God created in him.
The sound of that wind of eternal life was heard when Adam spoke from deep within himself. God is not a God of doing nothing with His Knowledge, His Presence, and His Power. God is a speaking, doing, and maintaining God. Words and language is crucial with God. That’s why when God is in something there is a sound that identifies His presence. Just like Jesus was trying to explain to Nicodemus that is why you hear the sound thereof the born again of the Spirit experience.
Adam was alive by God’s Spirit/wind speaking the names by inspiration of God for all the animals that was brought before him. God was actually there with Adam just waiting for the words to come out for each animal Gen 2:19. God was watching Adam that was made in His image and likeness walk and talk like any loving Father would do for his first born son.
Keep in mind God did not speak Adam’s living soul into life by words, but by God’s breathe/wind breathing upon him. When Adam sinned against God, it separated a father from his son. His son was now owned by death and sin. To buy his son back the cost would be a sacrifice of a death payment, but no ordinary death payment. Evil wants God to die, but He cannot because you cannot kill a Spirit. God promised Adam and Eve a son will come along to pay their debt for them in the future. God’s creation of salvation.
Nicodemus was sitting before that chosen son, Jesus. This is what Jesus was telling Nicodemus about being born again of the water and of the spirit. The water baptism is symbolic of being dead like Adam before God’s breathe of life, but now through the death of Jesus in water baptism with the power of his pure blood to wash away sins. The receiving of the Holy Spirit is God once again able to breathe the breath of life into us a new living creature’s redeemed soul freed from the debt and judgment of sin.
The wind blows where it wants to and you hear the sound thereof. Adam was God’s son when he spoke the words and language God gave him to name the animals and proclaim Eve as his bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh Gen 2:19, 23. The sign of God’s Spirit inside you is when you speak the words and language God gives you. The born again of the Spirit is no different.
This is why you read about the people praying on the second floor after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that a mighty rushing wind filled all the house where they were sitting Acts 2. Nicodemus here is the born again of the Spirit. Elijah here is the still small voice of power whispering in your ear. Adam here is the born again from death to redeeming life. God’s creation of salvation.
In this room with the wind/God blowing where it wants to go, hearing the sound thereof, coming and going inside of each person, speaking the words, and language by which God wanted to speak. The speaking words and language came from what appeared to be tongues above each of them surrounded with Spirit purifying fire coming down upon them, going inside them with their spirit, and coming back out with their voice speaking the words and language God wanted spoken as a sign to them and to those nearby.
Adam spoke freely the words and language God gave him because he was created in purity. Adam did not need fire, a death payment, or resurrection in the beginning. After sin took over mankind and corrupted him. Mankind needed a purification for his soul and a new body without sin. Jesus provided this purification and sanctification through his blood, death, burial, and resurrection. This is what John meant about being baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire Mtt. 3:11.
The born again of the Spirit for us today needed purification. We are all born with a tongue that speaks evil like a fire defiling our whole body with the flames of hell and no man can tame this unruly evil full of deadly poison James 3:6, 7, but God. This explains inside that second floor room that the wind there was the Holy Spirit as tongues of fire from God breathing upon each of them, going inside and back out through their voices with words and a language God wanted to speak good things for all to see the sign of His born again Spirit presence Acts 2:1-4.
Nicodemus you will know the born again of the Spirit like as the wind blowing, hearing the sound, coming and going where it pleases. You will know. The people outside this second floor could hear their native language coming out from the windows speaking the wonderful works of God. It was spoken in their normal language that they were hearing, but the source of the words and language was God purifying the souls being born again of His Spirit Jesus spoke of Acts 2:5-11.
The truth about being born of the Spirit, Nicodemus, is the faith, trusting, and yielding to God’s Holy wind breathing upon a repented person, uniting their soul with God’s Spirit in oneness, speaking the words and language God wants spoken, breaking the last spiritual chain of evil held by the fleshly tongue upon a sinner’s soul. Only God can tame the tongue if we freely choose to trust Him completely.
God breathed upon Adam in his pure state without sin the breathe of life creating a living soul. Through Jesus God breathes upon us once again the breathe of life. Adam laid dead on the ground. We are laid dead under water in baptism in Jesus name. Adam came to life after God’s breathe. We come to a new and redeemed life by God’s purifying breathe of life once again through Jesus Christ.
Nicodemus and all of us today, if we want to be born again it must be by the creation of God and nothing outside of that. Adam was born by God’s creation both body and spirit. The man Jesus was born by God’s creation and design. This is how we are born again only through God’s creation. Jn. 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.“
We are born again by God creating a fleshly body for Himself to dwell in to redeem us from death, hell, and the grave Heb. 2:14 . Nicodemus, Jesus sitting in front of you is the salvation creation God made for the second water birth and the second Spirit birth. Your faith is to trust the man Jesus to be born again from the watery grave and the infilling Spirit of redemption.
You and I are the Nicodemus of our time, sitting there before the words of God calling us into the creation of salvation path of being born again. God is the air around you and His wind could come upon you as He has done over the many thousands of years of believers. For God/Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Let the power of the blood that is in Jesus name wash away all your sins in water baptism and be like many believers praying patiently for the gift of the Holy Ghost to come upon you speaking the words and language God wants you to speak as a sign of the sound of His Holy wind blowing upon you and in you. You will never be the same and life will be totally different in His fellowship.
