If God Was Free

A volcano erupts when the pressure underground becomes so great it can longer be held back by the dirt and rock that is between it and the surface. Have you ever found yourself feeling like the volcano with pressure deep inside yourself? In a frustrating moment I said the words aloud, “If God was free” and my voice stopped with my thoughts finishing the sentence in my head.

The rest of the sentence my thoughts completed were “in me“.  If you put what I said out loud with the rest of the sentence I said in my head it would be, “If God was free in me”. Then the question came to me asking “is God not free in you?” I immediately started searching any and all areas of my life hoping to find what is holding God back from answering my pressure building frustration of life.

I could not find anything inside of me that was holding God back. This does not mean I am a perfect person by no stretch of the imagination. It only means I have nothing inside of myself that He cannot have full access. There is nothing inside of me He does not already know about and by my faith has all the liberty to change whatever He wants to make better.

I was still baffled by the words I heard myself speak aloud, “If God was free“. I totally focused on “it is me“, but how can it be me if God is free in me. Then a thought came to me down a path I had never considered to travel. Could it be God is the one who is not free? Is that possible? Can the All Powerful, All Knowing, and All Present One True God be bound and not free?

As my mind, heart, and soul was frozen upon those thoughts. God took me back to His first children – Adam and Eve. He told me He was not bound while walking in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day with His children made in His image and likeness. He was completely free. My mind was slowly seeing that God could be possibly “not free”. When the angels rebelled against God they were dealt with immediately and eternally finality.

God was completely free. He took me to the place after He had created all things through His Word and showed me the one word He spoke to Adam and Eve and that was, ” And the LORD God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.‘” (Ge. 1:16,17).

This was the only thing He put His eternal word upon with His children that was a separation of His eternal life to eternal death. Adam and Eve had total freedom of all things, except one tree. God was free before Adam and Eve ate of this one tree.  The angels are creatures made up of 100% eternal material that leaves no question to their destiny from their free choices.

I was starting to see the words I had spoken out loud and the thoughts I had afterwards. “If God was free…” was not “…in me” that there was a lack of freedom. When Adam and Eve sinned God bound Himself to His Own word to pay the price of death for His Children – Adam and Eve to all generations. He bound Himself, the Almighty God, out of love for His children. God took away His Own freedom to be that promise seed freeing His children from death (Ge. 3:15).

Wow, I realize God is not free. He has bound Himself out of love for us to His Word. This explains why Jesus said to John while in the river Jordan to baptize him (Jesus). John was refusing to baptize Jesus the one he had been preaching about coming after him being more powerful baptizing with the Holy Spirit and fire (Mtt. 3:11). Jesus said, “‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.‘ Then John consented.” (Mtt. 3:15).

Oh, my goodness God bound the fullness of Himself in the body of Jesus to be that promise seed He spoke to Adam and Eve to partake of flesh and blood so he could destroy the death penalty upon mankind providing a way out of bondage through His blood in His name (Jesus) washing away our sins in water baptism and freeing our spirit by the in filling of His Spirit (Acts 2:38).

Heb. 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” :15 “And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Col. 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

We are not the only ones who are not free. God is not free. He has bound Himself to fulfilling His word for us. It is all about the driver inside our bodies. He is after saving our eternal spirit from eternal death. The chain of sickness and pain in our bodies is not problem for Him to handle, but the chains of eternal death is the final separation that cannot be changed.

The volcano pressure inside of me causing me to say out loud “If God was free” and my thoughts finishing the sentence “…with me” is not necessarily that I am bound. It could be God is bound to someone in my life and I am the answer for their driver on the inside going to heaven. I may have wants and desires to travel far and wide-spreading His gospel, no matter how noble, or a life of regrets He is bound for the person(s) He can reach or keep through me.

If you feel like you are not living the life you want to live or doing the things you want to do, no matter how noble the cause, it could be that it is not you that is bound and not free. It could be God is not free for that someone or others in your life. Fight through the sadness, frustrations, and remain true to living for God, trusting Him day by day, one step at a time to the final moment you leave this world. God bless you.
